I am in Istanbul. I’m very happy. Finally and after 18 months in Morocco I could leave and travel to another location (except for my one-week trip to Italy and Malta in October 2010). I am very happy with my move to this wonderful city, and no doubt I’m very excited to be able to live in a city that I love (since I have been here at least 6 times), and living in a city that I like to write and include more pages in my daily travels.
I will try to write and describe my first days here in Istanbul, a city that is split between mainland Europe and Asia. On my first day, I took a taxi from Besiktas to Kabatas from where I walked to Sultanahmet area. If you like Istanbul and has always been a destination that you would like to travel, enjoy this little page about my day in Istanbul – Turkey.
During the next three months I will stay in an apartment in the area of Besiktas Muradiye, known for its football team Besiktas Istanbul team that has three Portuguese players: Manuel Fernandes, Ricardo Quaresma and Simao Sabrosa.

Photography of street Deryadil Sokak – Besiktas Istanbul. It is on this street that I’m living and where I will stay for 3 months. Perhaps after these three months I will stay more time … who knows. This street is 1 minute from the large weekly market every Saturday.
Eat Baklava – Turkish Confectionery

What better way to start the day than to taste a little bit of Turkish desserts? There are some shops in the neighborhood with a kind of pastry called baklava which is a type of pastry made with a paste of crushed nuts, wrapped in filo pastry and bathed in honey, and there are varieties that incorporate pistachios, hazelnuts and sesame seeds or poppy. My wife and I ate a cookie each, plus a small bottle of water and payed 5 liras (2.5 euros). Normally the price of these cakes varies from 24 to 30 lira (12 to 15 Euros) for 1kg.

Photography of baklava. As you can see there is huge variety of different pastries. We ate one with pistachio and another with chocolate. Very tasty.
Galata Bridge in Istanbul

The Galata Bridge in Istanbul is itself a tourist attraction and is the gateway to the old Istanbul coming from the side of Galata, where is the famous monument known as Galata Tower. Before reaching the bridge you can enjoy the sea view with boats, lots of fish restaurants. Above the bridge there are plenty of fishermen trying their luck with fishing rods. From here you can still see the Bosphorus Bridge in the background on the right.

Il will write more about Istanbul in posterior articles. Come back later. Thank you.
