Marijuana fields, Marijuana Morocco, plantations in the Mountains, Cannabis Rif Mountains, Northern Morocco

October 30, 2007

Marijuana fields can often be seen all around the 40km2 in the Rif Mountains northern Morocco. These are surprising huge plantations that can be seen while on the mountains. You do have to do some serious hiking to be able to see them as they are deep inside the mountains.

What is interesting about the picture above is that you can see a family playing in the river, so marijuana fields make part of a Sunday afternoon pic-nic landscape, a normal family environment for local people.

There’s an ancient law that gave permissions to this specific region in Morocco to produce marijuana. The present King can’t end with ancient laws set out by other older kings. These Marijuana crops are usually harvested during Summer and while on the region, the cannabis smell can be felt miles away. The smell is intense.

After the harvest, people pass to the next conservation step which is to be let down to dry open sky.

Marijuana in Morocco is a serious threat to public health in Europe as it is the first exporter of this herb.

Warnings Or Dangers: Barakholka’s district, Almaty Kazakhstan

August 29, 2006

Barakholka’s district is a wild, fun and full of crazy people place. you have to see this magic place full of action. Chinese people meet Kazakh, Russian along with Uighur, Uzbek, all in one can get messy and usually there is a lot of people fighting and shooting each-other. open your eyes and don’t go to places you thin should be dangerous. again i went everywhere i wanted and didn’t feel in danger but still this is just a warning for you to be careful and open your eyes and all will be ok. the problem everywhere in the world is that people when travel just relax their instincts and let them go to places they never would go while at home! Barakholka’s market consists on kms ans kms of labyrinths full of shops of all kinds….

marijuana plantations kazakhstan almaty central asia

Marijuana plantations around the city are often seen. I had to go off the road and find hidden paths to be able to go to the top of the TV tower hill as the cable car going up was broken, and also beacause the national road going up had a road block by police that prevent people from falling on the broken buildings damaged by the last earthquake. i found huge plantations of marijuana, so i guess some people should be guarding that right? i don’t think they would be very happy to see me there on their marijuana field!! check out the picture that only shows a little area of the plantation… WILD WILD!! ah and’a….. don’t pick it up!!

Up to TV Tower Hill by the bushes, Almaty Kazakhstan

August 29, 2006

The way Up to TV tower hill can be tricky and full of bad places. you have to pass a lot of garbage dumps and smelly rivers, dead animals and marijuana plantations. also the neighborhood on the way up is to be avoided and anyway, I ended being stopped by the police is who after a while I had been up went to pick me up and took me down on their patrol car.

This whole place of the TV tower hill was closes due to the previous earth quack that shook the region a few months ago. All the structure of the upper cable car / sightseeing terrace was destroyed and presented at the moment a threat to visitors. As I went up through the hill, I somehow passed the police stop check point by the road a few kms away. As someone saw me they went to pick me up, check passport, questions, etc, patrol car cruising down the hill again, this time inside the police car. It was fun…

Shiraz by night, Iran

August 29, 2006

Shiraz can be very calm during the night, something it isnt during the day. Its rushing streets and noisy cars almost disapear after 11pm. You can just walk in the city centre without getting lost without getting to far away from your hotel as people say it can be not that safe during the night. You can just go out and drink some tea and eat Falafel.

Shiraz is not that far fro the Iraq border so this should be one of the main reasons Iranians were worried i was actually visiting the area. The funny thing was that I was very welcome everywhere I would go, being on the majority of time almost “escorted” by nice people that would take me to where ever i was going, just in case I needed something they say.

Shiraz castle walls by night:

This is very pleasant to enjoy during the night as it has night light pointing at them. A walk in Shiraz can be not as safe as Esfahan for example, but for sure you’ll have to give it a try.

As the city is well known for being unsafe during the night, the streets are empty so you will have the whole boulevards and avenues to walk by yourself. This is a great difference comparing with Esfahan for instance, a city used to foreigners (in Iranian standards of course as there’s not much tourism in the country anyway…), people go out until late. Not as much in Shiraz. I was hungry so I found a small kebab place opened with this very curious people that start staring at me. hehe, I have to say I was kind of scared to even go inside this small place as when I passed they were looking very strange to me and their look wasn’t that friendly. But I needed to eat something and this seemed to be the only place opened so I decided to give it a try. I thought: what tha hell, Ill buy some food and I’ll go away right after. Conclusion: those guys were so friendly to me after. Not in the begining. but then one of them just told me to sit down and eat there as the streets could not be very safe. Conversation after conversation, they now knew I wasn’t American hehe (sorry guys, but these ones didn’t like Americans that much: but don’t worry cos they don’t like Israeli even more hehe) and they end up offering me a bottle of juice. I ate some great Falafel and french fries.
